7.4.2. Example Silent Printing Scenario
A table-service business has four printers located at the Register, Bar, Kitchen, and Servant stations. Waiters take orders using the main computer, servant computer, and phones.
The bar and kitchen printers are located away from the computers. The register printer is beside the main computer, while the servant printer is beside the servant computer.
The business owner has two requirements.
- Food items in an order must print from the kitchen, while drinks must print from the bar.
- The servant printer must be able to print a bill when requested.
The topology created to meet these requirements is shown above. On closer inspection, you can see that the register, bar, and kitchen printers are defined on the main computer, which has the application used for silent printing installed. No application is installed on the servant computer; only the servant printer is defined on it.
In this setup, waiters using the servant computer can print from printers connected to the main computer with the "Print Pending Products" and "Print" buttons in the application. They can print from the servant printer with the icon button beside "Print".
