What Are X and Z Reports? POS End of Day

What are X and Z reports?

An X report is an interim check: it shows sales so far and does not reset counters. A Z report is the day-end close: it closes the fiscal period and resets counters. On fiscal POS it is the base of daily collection discipline.

Use this guide to learn the concepts regardless of brand; for Inpos M530 steps go to How to take X and Z reports on Inpos.

POS day end and Ritapos

POS day end in Ritapos covers open order checks, sales summaries and stock movements. Fiscal day end completes with the cash register Z report. Both closes should happen on the same business day.

Reconciliation

Compare Ritapos day-end sales total with the device Z report. A cash gap can mean count error or off-books collection. Card payments need a three-way check with the bank day-end report.

At shift handover, take an X report and sign the cash handover form. With two ÖKC units at dine-in and takeaway counters, take two Z reports; the central total report must include both devices.

Only authorized staff should reach the admin menu; cashiers must not take Z reports.

X and Z report concepts

An X report is an interim report: it shows sales so far and does not reset counters. Use it mid-shift for cash counts and quick turnover checks.

A Z report is the day-end close: it closes the fiscal period and resets counters. The next business day starts with fresh counters.

Run three-way reconciliation on card payments: Ritapos, ÖKC and bank. Small gaps can come from settlement timing and void timing.

Orders closed without integration show separately; if the weekly ratio leaves target, retrain staff.

Shifts and cash handover

At shift open the previous Z report should already be archived. At shift close take an X report and sign the cash handover form.

In multi-register sites take each terminal X/Z separately; match them to register labels in Ritapos.

Manager passwords should sit with authorized staff only; Z report rights must stay off cashier roles.

Multiple devices and branches

Branch managers share monthly Z archives with accounting; audits may request physical or PDF archives.
