How Should You Take Orders from Guests?

Ritapos offers different ways to take orders depending on the type of venue. Here is how you can use touch, barcode and other methods at the same time.

How Should You Take Orders from Guests?

Ritapos, the cloud-based POS solution, offers different ways to take orders to suit different kinds of venues. These are mainly:

There are three main methods, and you can use all of them at the same time with different users. While the bar takes orders on a touch device, the till can add items to orders by scanning barcodes.

To switch a user to a different ordering method, you only need to change that user's settings.

Here are a few examples of how these methods work when you take orders from guests:

Example 1: Waiters take the order at the table on their own phone or on a touch device supplied by the venue, and send it straight to the screens or printers of different stations such as the kitchen and the bar.

Example 2: Waiters take orders on any tablet, PC or similar device used as a kiosk, and send them on to stations such as the kitchen and the bar.

Example 3: The till takes the order under the guest's name and sends it to the barista's screen. Once payment is taken and the order is handed over, the till closes the order. Because the order carries a name, the barista making the drink can call the guest by name, and nobody has to write names on cups.

Example 4: The barista takes the order and prints it. The order appears at the till instantly, and while the barista prepares it, the till collects payment and closes the order. The barista reads the guest's name on the printed slip and hands the order over.

Example 5: The guest brings the items they want to the till. The till adds each item to the order by scanning its barcode, typing the barcode number or typing the product name, then takes payment and closes the order.

Alongside payment types such as cash and credit card, all of your venue's income and expenses, including tips and service charges, can be reported instantly.

There are many more possible setups, but what matters in all of them is what happens while the order is being taken: unit prices and totals are calculated on the spot. Discounts set for the guest or added to the order are reflected in the total. Values such as the service charge are calculated automatically. So when your guest comes to the till to pay or asks for the bill, you can print the guest check right away and hand it over.
