What Is E-Adisyon? Compliant Electronic Check Guide

E-adisyon is the service check recorded electronically in GİB format. This guide summarizes systems, apps and compliance basics.

What Is E-Adisyon? Compliant Electronic Check Guide

What is e-Adisyon?

A guest check (adisyon) is a document that records goods or services provided by type and quantity. E-Adisyon is the electronic form of that paper guest check. Under the relevant notifications it carries the same legal character. It is not a new document type: it is the same duty prepared in digital form.

A document produced digitally is also stored and presented electronically. Through the application, guest-check data reaches the Revenue Administration (GİB) over digital channels. That puts the order record and fiscal traceability on the same chain.

A classic paper guest check has an electronic counterpart: e-Adisyon.

The e-Adisyon obligation is framed by VUK General Communiqué No. 509 (2021). GİB defines the document format so it covers the minimum required fields.

Who must use e-Adisyon?

Businesses covered by the communiqués

Under VUK General Communiqués Nos. 185, 200, 298 and 299, table-service venues such as cafeterias, restaurants, pastry shops, nightclubs and bars may be required to issue e-Adisyon. The tax authority notifies you of this obligation, and you must switch to e-Adisyon within 6 months of that notice.

In practice the scope covers food-and-beverage venues where orders are taken and tracked at the table. Even if you are not yet mandated, you can switch voluntarily to simplify your processes; businesses that want to leave paper guest-check cutting, tracking and storage early often choose that path.

GİB transition periods and announcements

GİB may require businesses to switch to e-Adisyon based on annual or monthly sales revenue. Preparation time is at least three months and is usually six months; notice goes to you or your accountant in writing or via ebelge.gib.gov.tr.

Taxpayers who receive notice in writing or by similar means must join within the stated period and must issue guest checks as e-Adisyon. Failure triggers the penalties set out in the law. To meet the announced date, finish e-Invoice / e-Archive readiness in the same window.

Is e-Adisyon a receipt or an invoice?

No. E-Adisyon does not replace a receipt or an invoice; it is the digital record of the order agreement between the customer and the business before sale. While the table is open, items can be added, removed or changed; those moves update the e-Adisyon in real time.

After service ends, the document must convert into an e-Invoice with an ETTN or a retail sales slip issued via e-Archive. Payment and fiscal close are separate steps; e-Adisyon does not replace them, it only links the order record to the fiscal document.

What are the prerequisites?

Taxpayers who want to use e-Adisyon must already be in the e-Invoice and e-Archive Invoice applications. Completing the e-Invoice transition is the prerequisite for applying. Without that step, the e-Adisyon application does not complete.

When your turn to apply arrives, planning e-Invoice, e-Archive and e-Adisyon in the same window keeps the work manageable. To see how the document is issued automatically at the table and how it links to the fiscal record at the end, open the e-receipt system page. Readers who look into e-Adisyon usually ask about the fiscal device side too; the registers that run integrated are listed on the cash register integrations page.

How is it issued at order time?

Simultaneous issue and updates

E-Adisyon is issued when the customer's order is taken. When the order changes, the document updates; you do not rewrite a paper check. The document opens when the order is taken on the waiter or till screen, and it takes its final form before payment.

Is a table printout required?

A printed copy of the electronic e-Adisyon does not have to be kept on the customer's table during service. The official record is the electronic document; a paper printout on the table is not required.

I offer both table service and self-service. Do I need a guest check on every transaction?

If payment is taken at the same moment the service is provided, a guest check is not required. However, if the customer receives service and pays only after some time has passed, preparing a guest check is mandatory.

QR code and info slip

Ritapos info slips automatically include e-Adisyon access details and a QR code.

Info slips printed with Ritapos automatically include access details and a QR code for the e-Adisyon. Scanning the QR code opens the official document. The info slip gives the customer a short summary; it does not replace the official e-document.

What information must the document include?

Required fields are set out in the VUK communiqué and the e-Adisyon Document Technical Guide. A reader-facing summary of the minimum fields:

  • Guest-check number
  • Universally unique identifier (ETTN)
  • Issue date and time
  • Document type code
  • Issuing business details
  • Customer-side details
  • Tax totals and monetary totals
  • Line items (product or service, quantity, amount)
  • Guest-check open and close times
  • Post-service reference to e-Invoice, e-Archive or fiscal POS sales slip
  • Fiscal seal or electronic signature

The technical guide may also cover fields such as table number and user. GİB may require extra fields by written notice. See the guide for XSD elements and examples; this article is for business readers, not a substitute for the software schema.

What happens if you do not comply?

Taxpayers who meet the criteria but do not apply may face e-Adisyon penalties. Irregularity fines can apply per document; missing documents in audits can also trigger sanctions. Failing to send data to GİB can bring further penalties.

Businesses subject to the obligation may not use paper guest checks; they must continue with e-Adisyon. After a notice or announcement, returning to the old paper process is not an option. Preparing the transition before the announcement reduces last-day rush and penalty risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is e-adisyon in one sentence?

It is the check you issue during service, recorded and sent electronically in GİB format; it has the same legal role as a paper check.

Is an e-adisyon system the same as POS integration?

No. E-adisyon is the order document layer; cash-register integration is payment and fiscal receipt. They work together but do not replace each other.

Who is the Ritapos e-adisyon app for?

Restaurants and cafes that are e-adisyon taxpayers or want to switch voluntarily; the document flow runs when the order is opened in Ritapos.

How is e-Adisyon presented to the guest?

Use electronic display or print methods that match regulations and technical guidance; the method depends on business choice and device capabilities. Saying "adisyon" instead of "invoice" to the guest reduces wrong expectations.

What should I do during the transition period?

Before your liability date, finish software, ÖKC integration and staff rehearsal. In the first week a daily checklist (document count ≈ order count) is recommended.
