How Do I Find the IP Address of a Thermal Printer?

When you connect your thermal printer to the modem with an Ethernet cable, the modem assigns it an IP address such as 192.168.1.101, which your computer uses to communicate with the printer. The modem usually assigns IP addresses sequentially from a specific address range to all connected devices. Because connected computers, mobile phones, and other devices may receive IP addresses before the printer, you need to find the address assigned to the printer before installing it.

There are two ways to do this. The first is to retrieve it from the printer. Most printers support this feature. The second is to retrieve it from the modem interface.

Finding the IP Address from the Printer

First, make sure your printer is connected to the modem, then turn off the printer.

Next, turn on the printer while holding down its blank paper feed button, labeled "Feed".

Hold down the Feed button for a few seconds.

Then release it.

The printer will print a test page containing its IP address.

Finding the IP Address from the Modem

Use a browser on a device connected to the modem to open the modem interface, usually at 192.168.1.1.

Unplug the printer cable from the modem.

Next, open the LAN tab. You will see a table listing the devices connected to the modem and their IP addresses.

Plug the printer cable into the modem.

Refresh the table in the modem interface. The new device in the table is your printer, and the displayed IP address is the printer's IP address.
